I've read through a lot of these but and still unsure of what to do. I just had a Winegard ms-2000 installed by dtv when the installed my hd-tivo. The antenna was "free" but can only receive 2 hd stations. Here is the info from antennaweb.org for my house:

* yellow - uhf WSOC-DT 9.1 ABC CHARLOTTE NC 28° 14.5 34
* yellow - uhf WJZY-DT 46.1 UPN BELMONT NC 324° 27.8 47
* yellow - uhf WUNG-DT 58.1 PBS CONCORD NC 37° 23.4 44
* yellow - uhf WWWB-DT 55.1 WB ROCK HIL SC 324° 27.8 39
* yellow - uhf WCNC-DT 6.1 NBC CHARLOTTE NC 321° 27.7 22
* yellow - uhf WAXN-DT 64.1 IND KANNAPOLIS NC 28° 14.5 50
* yellow - uhf WBTV-DT 3.1 CBS CHARLOTTE NC 322° 29.1 23
* yellow - uhf WCCB-DT 18.1 FOX CHARLOTTE NC 26° 14.7 27
* green - vhf WTVI-DT 42.1 PBS CHARLOTTE NC 31° 16.8 11
* red - uhf WNSC-DT 15.1 PBS ROCK HILL SC 222° 19.2 15

It appears that the majority of stations are in two general directions. My queistion is that with tivo I want to be able to record when I'm not home, meaning a rotor won't work.

Could I install two antennas in the attic and merge those signals. Would something like the Winegard sharpshooter 2000 work? The antenna is roof top mounted now. Thanks and I'll continue digging.

The problem for you is that your stations lie in two different directions, making using one directional antenna without a rotator a problem. A SquareShooter, or any other directional antenna won't get all of your stations for you without using a rotator.

I am going to go out on a limb here, and suggest a Channel Master 4221 4 bay UHF antenna mounted on the roof, mounted pionting half-way between the stations at 35 degrees and 330 degrees. You may have a bit of trouble with one or two stations this way, but the result is going to be better than than the MS-2000. Also, if your antenna wire is diplexed with your DirecTV lead-in coax cable, run a new wire from the OTA antenna directly to the tuner, and bypass the diplexer completely. I believe that you will have success with this if you aim the antenna carefully

Thank you. I know the installer added a diplex to the dtv dish, so I'll take that off and have a straight shot from the ota to the receiver. I'll try the Channel Master if the hoa doesn't scream. I guess I can ebay the ms-2000. BTW - even though I'm in Charlotte, NC I lived in the Hartford area for 30+ years :).

Gee, a Hartford, guy, too: I see you got out when the getting was good...LOL

BTW, if your HOA gives you problems, show them this:
