Noobie here...still trying to decide on a tv & looking for any input on "refurbished" tv's. There's a Sony outlet store nearby selling the 30hs420 for $730 - 10% = around $650 ($1000 at BB). Full factory warranty and has been fully inspected and is considered as good as new.

We were trying to spend under $750 and have been considering the Philips 30PW850H but I've seen a lot of negative posts about that set. Sony seems to be the top choice so this seems like a great deal.

We have a large room, but the couch is only about 8 ft from the wall where the TV will go so I think 30" is plenty (esp going from an old 27"). Any comments/advice/etc? Thx

I would get the Sony over the Philips (and I like Philips) based on the price. I have no problem buying a refurb set if that is what I want. Same warranty as new at up to 50% off.

My TV, though not a refurb, was a floor model as was my Onkyo amp. My sub was purchased from a repair shop. I say go for it. That is a great price.

don't get refurb product, it will most likely breakdown, because it was rebuilt, because it was broken before,

Granted, refurbs have been fixed, however, since the TV has been on for a while and since most electronics fail early, a refurb may actually have a higher possibility for reliability. If the price were right, I would not hesitate to buy a refurb (have done so in the past for some electronics (computers for example))
