Hi there,
I'm thinking of getting the KDF50WE655 - I actually currently have the SamSung DLP HLP5063W but i experienced that infamous audio sync problem and now everytime I'm looking for it and I don't feel paying $2500+ that I should be worrying about this problem. anyway, has anyone connected their PC to the Sony line of LCD RP TVs? just curious, as I may do so in the future. not for home theatre purposes but just for the heck of being able to hook up a PC to this TV. if anyone has, please let me know what kind of cables/equipments you had to buy and how you hooked them up.
thank you.

hi. i
just bought the sony kdf42we655. it will display a nice computer image.
im using the ati aiw 9800pro video card. you can output signal via svideo.
componet, or dvi. however best picture is componet 720p. you might also
be able use to rgb to componet adapter. i had the sammy hlp4663w, but
soft picture and rainbow effect. returned for the sony.

do I really need a video card of this quality? or something w/ TV out is good enough? I just want to see if I can use it for web browsing, no home theatre, etc.
thanks.

For just regular stuff a svideo cable is fine. For HD you would need component or DVI.

You won't be able to read text if you are just using an S-video connection...I have this experience under my belt. Upgraded my connection to component video using my ATI AIW VGA to Component Video adapter....makes a world of a difference. Text is easily readable using this connection. I highly recommend component video connection from a pc.

It also depends on the size of the text. Sometimes I hook my laptop up to my tv to watch tv shows I get and with subtitles I don't have a problem. Are you talking about icon text?
Some computers seem to have better drivers than others for S-video. Many people find S-video unwatchable on their HDTVs. I know I did.

Subtitle text from tv is entirely different. Icon text, web text, whatever...component video displays this text MUCH crisper than s-video. Yes, you can adjust the size of text that your PC displays, but it doesn't do anything to how crisp and clear it looks. You'll still be looking at blurry/pixelated text that is just larger in size. The original poster said he was wondering which connection to use for web browsing. As I said before, component video is the only way to go if you want to read your web text. HDMI would work fine too, but I don't have experience with that.
