I can't decide between the Hitachi 51swx20b, Phillips 55pp9502 or the Samsung HCM553w.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've got the Samsung HCM653W and it's a good tv for the money. Picture quality rocks for DVDs. Haven't seen what it does for the HD outside of the store though. The inputs on the TV are limited though so you may want to do some research on DVI and Firewire and make your own conclusion on those technologies.

I can't say anything good or bad about the other since my experience with the large screens is limited to date. Wish the Samsung had DVI and Firewire but you're not going to find those at the pricepoints the Samsungs are at.

JimO, welcome to the forum. Here's a link to a good review of the --> Hitachi (http://electronics.cnet.com/electronics/0-6342372-1305-20376906-1.html?tag=rev-rev).

If you haven't done so already, check out the FAQ section, 6th one down on the home page, especially the post, "If only I'd have known". That may help you decide.

I've never actually seen those choices from anyone else. You're a unique person.

Thanks for the replys. I decided to go with the Hitachi SWX. I am waiting for it to be delivered (this Friday!?!). The picture on the SWX was just too good to pass on.

I will let you all know how it looks at home.

Thanks again.

I have a Hitachi 57XWX20b and it is great for HD Programing and NTSC programming. The stretch modes are the best I have seen.

The only complaint I have is the 480p to 540p upscaling from a Progressive Scan DVD player. This upscaling causes artifacts that would normally not bet there. Other than that, the price is great, and clarity, color, and ease of use is super!!!

Can't beat the Magic Focus for a quick convergence.

Gregg, out of curiosity, have you tried sending a 480i signal from your DVD player, do the artifacts "go away", and what happens to picture quality as you see it.

Another option that may or may not be available, I can choose whether to display 1080i or 540P. Not sure if the new sets allow this.

Go to "setup --> picture formats --> video display".

(The 540P will not be an option when viewing HD material and it'll be "greyed out".) I run 1080i for everything.

I have tried switching to a 480i DVD output, and the artifact was actually worse in the movie I was watching(Spiderman). I have also tried using 1080i for the display from the 480p and it artifacts worse than the 540p.

I am pretty sensitive to artifacting since I waited and waited for an affordable progressive scan DVD player with the Faroudja processor and aspect ratio control. So I am probably overly conscious of artifacting, where someone else might not be looking for it. Thanks for the response. This is a great site!! It is really coming up to speed!!!

Hey Gregg,

Why not an Hitachi progressive scan player, as 57U pointed out on another thread, the hitachi player will have a 540p output to match the 540p input on the hdtv.

Might even be better than 480p.

It SOUNDS, at least the way to go.

That is an option, but I have not read of a Hitachi DVD player that does de-interlacing perfectly (or as close to it) such as the Faroudja or Silicon Images chips.

If anyone has any links to reviews, I would be glad to see them.
Thanks for the input.

I received the Hitachi 51SWX20b on Friday. This is an awesome tv. The brightness and color out of the box were almost unbearable (too high). Once I toned down the controls it is amazing. The blues are incredible!! As I have read in previous posts, Star Wars: Episode 2 looks great. The color and clearness of the picture blows away my 36" Proscan TV.

I highly recommend this TV to anyone.:D
