View Full Version : Comcast and AT&T Broadband Merge
Funny the FCC approves the merge of Comcast and AT&T Broadband but won't let Dish buy Direct.

This is because they typically don't compete directly, they cover separate markets. Satellite covers the same market.
Also, even with this merger, they still have "only" about 1/3 the market. That's a lot different from essentially 100% for satellite.
See this week's Business week for all the details. It's the cover article.

Does anyone think this may speed up viewing HD on At&T cable in the near future?
It may, in Canada, Rogers took over portions of Shaw in Eastern Canada and Rogers is ahead of Shaw, who have western Canada. Rogers is currently rebuilding/upgrading the "not so good" Shaw system, upgrading it to 750 MHz, so people can get HD in Eastern Canada. Shaw, the smaller company is a year or two behind.
The larger company would probably have more resources and clout to pour into these things.
I would wonder about the resources of a combined Dish and Direct? What is different about one choice for SAT or one choice for CABLE? I'm not in love with SAT and would change immediately to cable if they had good HD. I already subscribe to broadband internet, the house is wired and ready. I might not be wired :) but I'm ready! First one to come through with quality HD gets my business.
