Since the consensus has been that an inexspensive Pro-scan player is no better than an Interlace, I thought I would look at the more expsensve lines.
Most have been advertising compatibility with DVD Audio except for Sony which seems invested in Super Audio Cd. Is this going to be a VHS-Betamax type war? Any one have an idea of which will be the prevalent standard?

Mike, what model do you have? The DVP-NS715P( replaces NS700P) plays neither and the 755V only plays SACD.
There is barely enough software for either one to be successful, let alone dominate. I would place my bets on DVD-A if one succeeds.

like sony did with their latest dvd burner (multiformat), could we possibly see sony supporting both in a single unit?

Kevin, I have the NS700P sorry I wasnt specific but yes it does play DVD-audio cause I have The BLACK album by METALLICA from 91' which can now be bought in DVD Audio format and yeah it works perfectly fine on my player...

Mike,
That figures Sony replaces it with one that doesn't or at least does not say it is capable. This info I got out of the Crutchfield catalog.
715 does neither DVD-Audio or SACD while the 755 does SACD.

Yeah in my manual it doesnt state at all that it supports DVD-audio but when it comes to Metallica Ill buy anything so when I was at the store I thought what the hell its the black album in DVD-audio might as well get it so brought it home thinking well its not going to work and it does so Im guessing that Sony just either doesnt list that it supports it on my NS700 or maybe the 715 supports it and they just dont say.......l
I believe it was the May Sound & Vision that did a comparison of all the DVD players and what they played...
