DTV receivers selling at 20,000 per week clip

DTV receivers have been selling at a 20,000 per week clip in the UK and will add one million new receivers to the 1.5 million that were already in consumer hands before the new FreeView offering started this month.

Since the UK is one sixth the size of the US the equivalent sales would be 15 million. Compare that to the 200,000 8-VSB receivers we have in use.

Put another way the digital transition in the UK is 52.5 times as sucessful as in the US and they have done it is half the time we have had. If they had had the same time would they be 105 times as successful?

Only time will tell. In two years we will still be nowhere and the UK, having had the time we have had so far will be at 10 million, the equivalent of our having 60 million receivers.

Our FCC will be busy selling off more TV spectrum in the meantime and we will be closer to an end to free TV in the US.

Sorry folks but that is the plan. They can't get away with this stuff overseas but anything goes here in the land of the free and asleep.

For shame, Wooger! You should know better than to even bother putting a response on a robmx post. The man has as much feeling of social inappropriateness as a leper has feeling in his fingertips. All we end up doing is either egging him on or letting him rant on about something else, as if telling us all of this COFDM BS would make one iota for difference to us. What can I say, he just can't seem to figure out that we really just don't care, no matter how much he tries to motivate us otherwise.

Actually, he just motivates me to hate the thought of COFDM, not because of any technical differences or anything, just by the sheer virtue that he likes it. All of his ranting is enough to make me want to avoid it like the plague. But, I can assure you that he has been at this for YEARS. Even complains that AVS Forums commits the evil sin of censorship if anyone mentiones those holy letters of COFDM, when in fact AVS Forums really only bothers to censor HIM and his IP address because everyone over there got so sick of him and tried everything the could to get him to shut up, without any luck, that they felt the only choice left to prevent a major flame war from erupting every time he posted was to simply disallow him from posting there. He's even tried changing his name so he could continue to post this mad obsession of his. (And it IS an obsession! I think the dude really needs to seek some professional help about this.)

Oh well. I guess we just have to try to ignore him as best as we can. Too bad the newer folks get so easily caught into the trap of responding to him.

We have a lot of things better than they do. Our problem is that our government is being hijacked by the highest bidder. Bidder is the wrong word, it is pure graft, bribery and corruption. To put it any milder is to buy into unreality.

Those who are being elected pay less and less attention to our needs because they beleive that they can buy our votes with TV ad dollars and they know where to get the bucks.
