AVIA Calibration Tips (http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/usefulinfo/avia_tips_az.html)
this thread takes me to a non-functioning web page. Help.
See the working link in my next post.
By typing AVIA tips into a search engine I was able to find the link.
This link should work... (http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/experttips/guykuo/avia/avia_tips.html)
Hey there, great link, but I have a question about AVIA.
Do direct view CRT HDTV's need to be calibrated or is AVIA really only critical for projection type HDTV's?
The short answer is yes, any TV will benefit from calibration.
I did my "older" SD direct view TV with AVIA and it did make a difference, however, I'd say that my RPTV needed it more.
The direct view will not have the convergence issues, however, colour and other options like brightness, contrast, sharpness, etc will still benefit from an AVIA tune up.
Remember to turn off all of your automatic settings like SVM, black level, auto-colour, etc. And leave them off. They make the picture on an HDTV worse rather than better.
The picture will look quite a bit different and you may not "like" the effect initially because you are used to some "very hot" settings. Give it a week and you will never go back to watching a TV in "Torch Mode". You'll also be able to see details that you didn't see before and most of the "jaggies" will be gone too.
