I'm thinking of getting this model and would love to hear some first-hand reports from any of you who have this model (KLV-32M1), not the $6K model but the less expensive model. I can get it for $2399 locally. Sounds like a good deal. I'm particularly interested in quality of HD image and how it does with DVD's, either regular or on an upscaling DVD like Toshiba's, Samsung's or Denon's.

My wife agreed that I can purchase another TV for upstairs with my recent bonus. However, she didn't want another bulky/heavy tube TV to struggle with, so my choice to an LCD or DLP HDTV. The KLV-32M1 was being sold at a Sony Factory store recently during their 10% sale. Instead of the refurbished unit, they brought out their last brand new unit in a slightly crushed original box. A new unit for a refurbished price, so I couldn't resist! Total price was around $2200 with tax and 3 year extended warranty.

I mainly watch standard broadcast cable, progressive DVD, and also use it to play PS2 GrandTurismo4 game with it's 540P/1080i in-game output. 540P displays wonderfully with this set. The set looked pretty good right out of the box, but don't use the VIVID mode or you'll burn your cornea. I only view through PRO mode and use the lowest lamp setting (0 to 10) after my minor tweaks. The disply is quite sharp and the sound output is pretty nice through the integrated speakers.

Like all other HDTVs, old reruns through standard broadcast doesn't look as good, but this one does a pretty decent job at it than all of my previous HDTVs. I wished it had more than one set of component video inputs though, but this is my first set with HDMI. It's got a slick looking remote.

The price and performance can't be beat. Plus, it is made in Japan, unlike many other competitive models. If I had more money, then I would have considered the Sharp G-series or JVC 585 series. However, I'm quite satisfied with my purchase. Best of all, I was able to carry it upstairs by myself.

I can't wait to get hooked up to HDTV broadcasts or an upscaling DVD player (if the DVD player does 720P output, then that would be ideal for this TV).
