To start: I've read the DVI FAQ, and while I didn't read all of the articles, I did read the whole post. :)

Anway, I have a Motorola HDTV cable receiver, and it has a DVI output port. My Philips 30PW8402 television has an HDMI input port. I bought a cheap DVI-to-HDMI cable off of eBay, and attempted to use it, but my cable box refuses to display 1080i when I do. My component cables work fine, but for some reason, this stupid cable won't work. Does the quality of the cable make a lot of difference (i.e. should I bother buying another?).

Are you getting any output from the DVI output on the cable box at other resolutions?

Yes. It works fine with 480p.

480p is not HD though, so that's not really what you want. What model # is your Moto STB?? DCT 6200?

If you're getting a signal through (480P), sounds more like a "handshake" issue between the STB and the TV since it's not letting HD through. (HDCP issue)

1. Always turn the TV on first.
2. Don't connect any other video cables, only the DVI/HDMI.
3. See the following guide for the Motorola.

If you have the Moto DCT 6412 cable box, then I know right where you are coming from. I had the same problem and I solved it by getting a different cable.....I bought a DVI to HDMI cable from www.svideo.com and now everything works fine. I get 480i, 480P, and 1080i. Hope that helps.
