Just purchased a new Sony KDF-42WE655 over the weekend--really enjoying the screen, however--when I tune to local OTA stations, the picture initally comes up in 4:3 mode with bars on each side and I've got the pin-cushion effect on the vertical geometry on each side of the picture--best that I can measure it's somewhere between 0.05 to 0.10 inch deviation from vertical along each sidebar--I've called Sony and they say that it can be adjusted, but I was wonedering whether there is any one out there that knows what variables in the Service menu are used to adjust pin-cushion or is this an actual mechanical adjustment involving the LCD panels??

By the way--went back to the store and checked--the display model looked fine, but 2 more units they pulled from inventory and hooked up were as bad or worse than my unit??

Mine does it *slightly* near the top of the screen, vertically. I was told that LCD projection TVs don't have any kind of pincushion adjustment and it can only be done on CRT displays. This was during a service visit that I had due to my original TV, a Panasonic PT-43LC14 that had horrible pincushion effect, both horizontally and vertically. This, incidentally, was the reason I exchanged it for the Sony. I think the effect that I see is actually more of a trapezoid effect, rather than pincushion, now that I think of it. If you figure out how to adjust this stuff, let me know since it's knowledge that I'd love to have...

I was told by Sony (Customer Service, not Tech. Support) that it is adjustable, but then I was told by 2 out of the 3 service providers they gave me to contact that it was not.

Yeah I wouldn't go by what CS said... I've been told that these TVs take about 100 hrs to break in so I'd give it a little while...
