I need help.......

I am new to the HDTV scene, I am in the market to purchase a new HDTV widescreen set. I have narrowed my decision down to two manufactures, which I am eyeing two different sets from each. My manufacturer choices are Sony and Mitsubishi. With the Sony I am looking at a 51" set and a new 46" set (that Circuit City just got in); as far as Mitsubishi I am looking at a 46" or a 53" model.... My first problem is that with the Mitsubishi's the screen warranty is only 30 days as with the Sony's their is 1 year.. Mind you, I will purchase a extended warranty due to having 4 kids..... Also I am not quite sure about long time quality of either brands... I have read numerous reviews on both brands via this forum and found that problems can exist with either brand... I am just completely lost, I am not sure what to do or how to narrow my selection down... To be honest, I am very scared with the Mitsubishi's short warranty on screen but yet not sure if a Sony will be a adequite alternative..... Please give me some insight, for it has been hard for me outside of this web page to find further reviews......

These sets are both as reliable as they get - no manufacturer is perfect.

Since you are new to HDTV, check out the FAQ section, 6th one down on the home page, especially the post "If only I'd have known" and that may help you narrow down your choices.
