I think I am going to buy a Sony KD-34XBR960 and have a couple of questions.

1. What kind of cables should I buy for the set to hook up my dvd/cable box to the tv? Do HDMI cables come with the set?

2. I have read that there have been problems attaching the HDMI to certain cable boxes - generates a non-HDCP compliant error message. Is there a particular cable box I should insist on to avoid this problem

I would appreciate any other advice anyone might have for this hdtv newbie.

Thanks!

Allen

Welcome. HDMI cables usually do not come with the Set, or the STB.

Who will be your cable provider?

You'll need to find out which STB options you have?

Do you want an HD DVR?

Check out the FAQs:

"DVI connectors" for HDMI information and places to buy cable
"What you need to do to your new HDTV"
Any other FAQs of interest.

Let us know the model of your DVD player and we should be able to assist there too.

Thanks 57U, I appreciate the assistance.

The cable provider in Atlanta is Comcast, although I could also use satellite providers Voom, DirectTV, or Dish. I am open to suggestions (I have just moved to the area so have no contract, etc.)

I do want to use a HD DVR.

According to a local Comcast rep I spoke with this morning, Comcast use the Motorola 5100 STB and a Motorola 6412 HD DVR. However, a local website says that Comcast Atlanta uses the Motorola 6208 set-top box for its HD-DVR service. Any thoughts about those?

I think I'm going buy a new DVD player, but my exisitng unit is a JVC XV-N3SL.

I am heading over to the FAQ's right now. Thanks again! Allen

A good thing to do before you buy is to download the users manual. For Sony items, go to this site:
http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/sosdocs/default.asp?src=sonysupport

And enter the model number for your set.

Good luck.
