Hello, just purchased a Pan PT50LC14 and have had it about a week and have had the following problem from day 1. When the set is connected to my cable box via a DVI to HDMI cable if I am watching a HD program on an HD channel and switch to any non HD channel the picture has a blue colorcast. When I go back to HD it goes away and comes back as soon as I switch away from HD. This only happens thru the HDMI input, Component is fine.

The menu has a Color Correction setting for HDMI and when I change its state (either from on to off or vica versa) the picture corrects itself. I have been unable to get a good answer from Panasonic and have differing opinions from various other sources (Pana authorized service centers) telling me that this is how this TV is supposed to work. That HDMI only works for HD Broadcasts.

Has anyone else had this problem? I just want to know if I have a bad TV or if this is expected. Otherwise I am very happy with the picture quality and everything else about the TV. Thanks for your help

kozman,

I have the same problem with my PT43LC14 but I have mine connected to a HD Directv box. Last night I tried changing the display format that the receiver sends out to the tv. I can set it up so that any 480i input signal gets sent out as 480P. With it setup like this the blue hue goes away. It just shows up when a 480i signal is sent to the tv. Does your cable box have the ability to output 480P or higher for any incoming signal? I will keep testing but so far this has worked on every non-HD channel I have tried.

Thanks Inggy,

After looking all over the place for answers I stumbled across the same finding just yesterday and so far so good. Since I have adjusted my cable box to only output 480P I no longer get the blue cast. I am still amazed that so few people have come across this unless it is just because most people are using component connections. Thanks for your help.

Had the same problem, didn't see thread till today. I used a DVI cable with a Monster HDMI adapter. I noticed on the package that it could only handle 480P, 720P and 1080I and that it was not compatible with 480I. Everyone looked blue when set to 480I. Color correction did correct this if you only had 480I as an option and if im not mistaken it would remember to turn off when switched to an HD station.

I have this same problem. I have always thought it was my Voom STB causing it. If I switch back and forth a few times from HD to SD the blue channel goes back to normal. I think I may stop using the HDMI and go to component.

I never really saw any PQ difference b/t component and HDMI. If anything people have had problems with the dvi to hdmi "connecting" well together. Houdini if you switch back to component, then you can save the HDMI for an upscaled DVD player to play DVD's at 720p/1080i/1080p....

That would be a good idea but I have a JVC DVD recorder with built in VHS and it doesnt upconvert and I like it so much I wont be replacing it unless it gives up working some day. I'm thinking the DVI to HDMI adapter Im using may be causing the problem.

Sounds like you have it under control then....
