Does anyone have experience in attempting to use there pc with their hdtv. my phillips 55" hdtv has a d sub connector in the back however when i attatched my pc all i got was rolling lines on the screen. I emailed phillips and they said i need an adapted that changes the d sub to a component output. I have not had any success in locating this item and i am skeptical about the success of this connection. Iknow there are scan convertors out there that will do this but am unformialar in there use and they are somewhat expensive. Any help would be appreciated.
Until someone provides you with assistance, I'd like to recommend that you go easy on the experimentation. Connecting an incorrect signal to your HDTV could do damage to the circuitry.

The transcoders are simple to use, you just plun in that VGA cable into one side and the component cable on the other and you are good to go. BTW, What is a d-sub connector? Is that the same as an RGBHV (or VGA) connector? If so then all you need (same for if you get the transcoder) is a little program called Powerstrip. Check out http://www.entechtaiwan.com to find it. It's free if all you are using it for is the custom resolutions function, which is what you need.
The concept here is that you need to tell your computer what kind of monitor it is connected to so it does not send signals to the monitor that it cannot handle. Those rolling lines means you might be sending something like a 640x480 timing at, say 80Hz, which could easily damage (that's right, DAMAGE, so take 57Us advice and be VERY careful about your experimentations) a set that is really only prepared to handle 60Hz. It is usually reccomended that you set up your custom resolutions using a PC monitor first, and then connect to your HDTV to give it a try.
It's fairly easy and definitely worthwhile.
