I just bought Akai pt4799hd (Fri night) and have it hooked up to a PS2.
While playing games today (in either 480i or 480p or 1080i) I noticed that the the lower right (or upper left) vertical edge appears to curve a little bit and there is no image behind it. The other sides are all perfectly straight, but this edge looks like something isn't size matched or something. I have seen this effect on CRT computer monitors before (Moire??)
The games were running in 16:9 (set on the PS2 and on the TV.)
Any explanations? I am in the dark here, and the manual doesn't mention anything about it. Help??
Is this due to the PS2, or is it the TV?
DVDs don't seem to do this, but I haven't tried very many.

Just did some more troubleshooting. The curved edge (more like pincuhsion effect -- but only at the last 5 inches of the lower right side) only seems to happen with the PS2 (either component video or composite)
This does not happen with the Xbox (s-video or composite)
The effect also happened with the PS2 and a SDTV Toshiba 32 (flat screen) and the component inputs. So it seems like the PS2 is at the heart of it. It sort of seems as if the image is not large enough to fit the screen (even though the settings are 16:9 on both TV and PS2
Any ideas? Has anyone else have this sort problem with their PS2 and another TV?

You are experiencing the same thing I was, except my tv is a 27" Advent (excellent HDTV). When I play PS2 or Gamecube in progressive scan the screen loses 2/3s of an inch off both sides, but when I play XBOX or a progressive DVD movie the screen is the correct size. I tend to believe that the PS2 and Gamecube video output signal strength is not as strong as the XBOX or a quality DVD player and is not giving the TV enough picture info to work with. Almost trying to light a big room with a 40 watt bulb, compared to six 100 watt bulbs. Fortunately with the Advents service menu I get a perfect fit in seconds. Hope this helps

I think you are right, but I was just getting nervous about my TV, having just purchased it.
Do you just zoom in a little to make the image larger and go beyond the tube edges?

No, there is a horizontal size setting in the service menu, when the screen isn't filled I just make the screen wider horizontally, works perfectly every time and only takes about 5-10 seconds!
