the 480 must look good at a live event, cause it did not look as good as cbs 1080 but it looked better than fox's other shows like boston public in 480.

480p is about as good as DVD but only about half of what CBS college ball looks like. Live events are on Video Tape while most other shows are done on film. Tape gives you a clearer picture than "artsy" film does. You really notice it with CBS's HD commercial vs regular programming.

film looks like crap on my tv while all video events are crystal clear.

Wait 'til you see LIVE live TV on HDTV. WOW! Straight from the field to your TV in digital 1080i BLOWS ME AWAY!!! I still haven't seen a picture better than last summer's baseball on HDNet. The HD recorded programming theoretically should be as good, but... I could SWEAR that the live baseball game was just out and out superior to EVERYTHING else!
The best IS yet to come. Really.
I watched a portion of the Fox NFL coverage yesterday and although it doesn't look as good as the CBS college games, it looked damn good for what is essentially upconverted 480i, shown in widescreen format.

Agreed. It was nice to have it in widescreen and it looked marginally better than the regular games, but even my finance (who normally asks me to switch to analog cable at the first sign of dropouts) commented that Fox widescreen looked really "blurry" compared to HD.

Any live sporting event in 1080i blows 480p away. I am looking forward to the Stanly Cup finals.

What game was in Fox's EDTV? Is there a way to know in advance which of Fox's games will be broadcast in that format?
Since Fox is EDTV, it appears that none of the High Def Guide sites are providing that information, yet. I tried 5 different ones... The ones that did list Fox, only gave primetime listings.
Fox did promise to do 2 NFL games per weekend, so you can probably assume that from this point forward they will be EDTV widescreen....

what is wrong with u guys,
no one here even mentioned hdnet's
college football games and their nhl specials that i believe they call sounds and sights,
that is when they turn off the commentary and just let u watch the game, with mikes next to fields,
very awesome, the best ever

Ya, it is pretty awesome, HDNet has an ansolutely incredible picture. However, on Sunday, I still want to watch the NFL and it would be nice to know which games are going to be in EDTV. Guess I'll just have to tune in and check when its gametime.
