We had a Samsung 54" that had a square screen instead of the widescreen. It went out at only 1 1/2 years old and we have had such trouble getting the part to fix it (so far it has been in the shop for 1 month and they say it will be almost another month before the part even comes in) that Circuit City is giving us a new TV. Of course they don't make that square screen that we had anymore (and we really are nervous about getting another Samsung anyway). We are looking at a Sony KP57WS520. I had read on some other threads that a couple of years ago the Sony sets had a flicker in the picture. Can anyone tell me if they have corrected this problem? Also will this be a good set for us to buy this time? Are there any problems with this particular set that we need to know about before we make a decision?

I've had the Sony KP57WS520 for about 4 months now and have been very happy with it. If you have an HD signal, the widescreen is much better than you're old Samsung.
Good Luck.

So you haven't had any of the flickering that I had heard about?

It was the 500 series I beleive. I have a 510 series and have had zero problems out of my set.

I've had my 57WS655 since Christmas and have had no problems at all. No flicker, or anything. I'm really happy after going through a months worth of numerous problems with a 57" Hitachi.

They delivered our new set last week and we are thrilled with the quality of the picture! It is so much clearer than the Samsung. I think we are really going to be happy with it. Thanks for all your help!

Have gone through two Sony KDP51WS655 in a week. First set never turned on and second has a display/menu that flickers and blacks out. Sony cannot explain the black-out.

No problem. I knew that and was providing a little guidance.
