I have component video cables for my PS2, and I am trying to hook it up to the SONY 60XS955 model. I am plugging a Monster component cable into the input 5 and 6 areas on the back for HDTV/DVD. For some reason, I am not getting a picture or sound. I switched to input 5 and 6 on my TV, and I am getting nothing. Yes, the TV and PS2 are plugged in. I figured that I needed a better cable. I went to Best Buy and bought an HDTV supported component cable for $60. Still, nothing. Someone please help!

Here is what I do for my XBOX and my Sony 60" LCD RPTV:
My HD Cable Box video goes into my Sony receiver and the DVD video does, too, for component-video switching, using only the component video 5 and using component video 6, still free for XBOX or gameboxes.
If this is not your scenario, check to make sure your TV 5 & 6 component inputs are active and not shut off for some reason...never had a problem.
As for sound, the optical cable from the gamebox has to be connected to the receiver/amp for sound or you won't get any...unless you just attach the red and white RCA jacks from the gamebox to the TV directly and drive the speakers on the set-only. Make sure the TV speakers are set to on if that is how you use them instead of a HT receiver/amp.

Is there some type of setting on the menu that shuts 5 and 6 off? I'm thinking that is the problem. I used the old cable that my playstation came with to hook it up to the TV. That worked, but the clarity is just not there. I had a better picture on my 32-inch Sony Trinitron WEGA when the Monster cables were hooked up to it. Now, the 32-inch is not an HDTV. I have heard some things about older PS2 models not being compatible with HDTV, but the cable that I purchased said it worked for hooking up a PS2 to an HDTV. Anyway, do you know how to activate/deactivate inputs? If that doesn't work, I'm thinking there is a problem with the TV itself.

You'll notice your "red, yellow, and white" composite cables end in a unique connector that attaches to the PS2?
You can replace this entire cable with one with S-Video + L/R audio, or Component video + L/R audio.

Can you select Video 5 or 6? (That is, the green letters VIDEO 5/6 appear on the screen?)
If not, it will be in your TV menu. Possibly under Video Label. You can label the inputs (DTV, GAME, DVD, etc.) but if you choose SKIP, then that input will not be accessable. It's handy once you have everything hooked up and don't want to cycle through unused inputs.

I dont get what you are talking about? The cable that came with the PS2 is different at the end that connect to the ps2. how does a s video or compponent cable connect to the the ps2?

You buy a new cable, the end that connects to the PS2 is the same as what you have now. Whats different is the other end that connects to the tv. You'll have component ends (Red,Blue,Green) instead of a composite end (yellow).

Just go to eb, and get an av adaptor with component cables at the end, they even monster brands too.

As far as the rumor about older PS2's not working with hd sets, I have an original PS2 that I camped out for on release day hooked to my sony xs 60" no problem at all.
Good luck
