I'd like to watch HDTV, but have a very limited budget. I do have a MAG Innovision Model LT976s 19" LCD Computer Display which has both DVI and VGA inputs. The DVI cable appears to be DVI-D Dual Link. This is a computer monitor, not a TV. I use it on both Macs and PCs with the DVI connector, and it looks beautiful. Resolution is 1280x1024.
For only $150, I have been seeing eBay ads for a Samsung HDTV Terrestrial Receiver (HDTV Tuner) model SIR-T351. It has a DVI connector with HDCP support, and a DTV OUT RGB format connector. Would either one of these connectors work with a computer monitor like mine? Would the HDCP "feature" make the DVI connector non-functional with my DVI computer display? Is the DTV OUT RGB format connector something like a VGA connector?

First check www.antennaweb.org to see if you can get the Over The Air (OTA) digital signals. To answer your question, yes, RGB is the same as the vga port on your moniter. The t351 also uses dvi-d BUT im not quite sure if HDCP will be a problem. To avoid the hassle just use the RGB (vga) connection and make sure the settings are correct on the back of the sammy t351.

Photog_7,

Concerning HDCP and your Computer's DVI-D...

To get HDCP with your DVI computer connection, you need to have a proper graphics card such as the Radeon 9800 PRO. It has an Integrated 165 MHz TMDS transmitter (DVI 1.0 compliant and HDCP ready). See:

http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9800/radeon9800pro/specs.html

Otherwise, when a Broadcast Flag is used to encode a program or movie, your HD receiver will not have a compliant monitor to transmit the signal to and, provided the Broadcaster has given notice to FCC, your picture format may be downgraded to 480i.

However, apart from flagged programs, you will be receiving HD with the equipment you have and the OTA receiver.
