Hey people,

At the same time I am posting this, I say hi to you all as it is my first post on this forum.

On to interestting things. Recently I bought a PT-53WX54 Panasonic RPTV. In order to get the best picture possible while watching DVD movies, I also bought a Hitachi DV-P745U dvd player. It is hooked to the TV using the component 1 input. I know that the TV is suppose to support 480i, 480p and 1080i. So i activated the progressive scan on the dvd player to get a 480p output and switched the screen format to wide 16:9 in the dvd player setup screen.

Now, in the TV manual, it is said that if a 16:9 480p input is sent to the TV, the default mode would be 16:9 on the TV. In my casem, it defaults at FULL (horizontal stretch). With the aspect button, I can only change to 4:3, Just, zoom and Full. How can I set the TV to a full 16:9 mode without any stretching?

Thanks

For Panasonic full is what you want for 16:9 Picture.
Normal for 4:3
Just is 4:3 with the sides streched to fill screen (you will see things stretch and squeeze when camera goes from side to side or if some stands between the middle and side of the screen one leg will be skinny while the other is fat). I never use Just.
Zoom I use for getting rid of bars top and bottom for widescreen DVD's with an aspect ratio 2:35. Widescreen DVD's with an aspect ratio of 1:85 should fill your screen in full.

For more information on the modes, see the FAQ on Widescreen Stretch Modes.

Full is correct for anamorphic DVDs (which most are). For non-anamorophic DVDs, you'd need to use the zoom mode.
