:) I got this set about 4 month ago. My old Zenith 32' whet dead on me. I was hoping to get another couple years out of my old set and then I could see where the HD technology was at that point, but oh well. The night my old TV whent out I drove to Best Buy with the intention on buying another 32' analoge TV but as soon I starting walking around comparing TV's I was sold on the fact that I needed to jump on the HDTV bandwagon. No need in buying old technolgy at this point. My good freind had bought a 34' Sony HDTV about a year before so I got my first taste and liked what I saw. The problem was that I did not have $4,000 sitting around to spend on that TV (Don't get me wrong his TV is supierior in many ways execept on price and overall value, My HD picture and DVD picture looks just as good). So while looking around the store I saw this 30' Samsung. I fell in love right off the bat. The size was perfect for me as I live in a small apartement and wanted a TV that I would be able to watch in my small living room and fit on my curent TV stand. I knew going in that I did not want a RPTV because I am still not sold that the picture is that good (still can't see picture unless sitting right in infront of, wich again in a small apartment is ok for me but my guests would not be able to see the screen). Also A big 50' TV would not only kill my eyes sitting 6 Ft. away but trying to get it out once I move to a house would not be much fun. The other factor that sold me on this TV was of course the price. If I had the money I would have gotten a bigger TV with more features but for what I can afford this was a great choice. So I got the TV is home and I love it more everyday. DVD's look amazing, HD channels feel like i am looking out a window (I get my HD via my local Cable company). The digital Cable channels look good but the regular channels (analog NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, ext...) look worse than on a regular TV. If I am watching FOX you can see grainy scan lines and occational gosting. Just like any TV you put a crapy TV singnal in you get crapy picture out. Because the TV is so much nicer and has a line doubler the bad signal anolog 480i that come in is even more noticable. But I have heard many of the same complaints about alot of other HDTV's at twice the price so you just learn to live with it (I watch more movies than regular TV shows anyway) and becaue it is a wide screen model the TV steches the picture (making the picture short and fat) the bad anolog 480i channels show their limitations. I found if you go into the custom picture mode and turn down the contrast you can make the grainy vertical scan lines almost go away. So summing it up I love this TV. I am a huge movie fan so watching DVDs and HD movies (HBO HD and Showtime HD Channels look incredible) is lots of fun. and most of the the digital programing supplied by my digital cable box look nice. Not having picture in picture kinda sucks but I never had it before so I don't miss it and I would never spned exta money just for a feature I would most likley never use. This is a very nice TV even without the bells or wistles, but don't miss anything that I can't get when big sreen TV's come down in price and I have a larger house to hold it.

I am having the same problems you had. I am going to try the custom picture and reduce the contrast. Lets see how that works!
I am also not satisfied withe the DVD quality. I have a Apex 800 progressive scan and I have coponent connection. When I turn on the player and the Apex screen comes up, which reads "APEX" in white there is a bluryness around the word. I also have noticed that with some other colored words. I dont remember getting this with my analog tv. Is it to your point that the TV being such better quality picture I can now see this bluryness? By the way, I have DTV cable with HDTV and my TV is a Samsung HDTV TXM2796HF.
Hope you can help me.

The DVD picture should definitely look good. Perhaps try upgrading to a better DVD player. I don't want to be a product snob per se, but Apex isn't exactly the pinnacle of performance. I own two Toshiba SD-3250 Progressive DVD players and the picture looks great. I have the Samsung 38, its a couple steps up from the 36, a couple hundred dollars more, but I'd imagine pretty much the same as far as the picture quality goes. It just has more features.

Thanks for the advice. This weekend I will try out my neighbors Sony DVD. If all works well I will buy a new DVD player. I'll let you know the results.

I also hooked up an HDTV receiver. It looks great. I just wish all channels are HDTV by tomorrow :)

I have had this TV for two weeks now and could not be happier with the $900 that I spent. Even though I don't have a p-scan DVD my newer cheap Samsung model definitely does the job. Sadly I don't have decent access to HD yet and my local cable has always been crappy. But even then, after tweaking the picture (drop the brightness and sharpness) I get a very good reception compared to what I was used to.

So far so good, and I have no regrets.

:D

I have been using this television with a Faroudja enhanced kenwood sovereign dv-5900m and am extremely pleased with its performance. The best I have seen at anywhere close to its price and I am a salesman. I used a avia test disc to adjust the picture and have been very impressed with its performance. I also own a Sharp ZX-V9000u projector.

I am using this TV with a Panny S35 and DVD performance is flawless. The only thing I'm sorry about is the lack of DVI/HDCP, but this set is otherwise perfect for my setup and I'm not planning on returning it.
