Is there a huge difference between the avia dvd or one of the "on disk" setups like the T2 dvd?
After reading your post I went back through my DVD's and found a THX Optimization setup on the 'Atlantis' DVD. Not nearly as comprehensive as the Avia DVD, but was easy and did a very good job for the basic audio and video adjustments. I had just done an Avia basic setup last week and the THX setup just verified all was still well. I used the Avia blue filter and it worked fine. If you don't have a blue filter they have another method for setting color but I didn't try it.

THX movie setup almost always has an increased Brightness level in comapared to what is setup by AVIA on my TV. SInce any changes are not permenant unless saved I often re-adjust for a THX calibration.
I'm still wrestling with the 'contrast' settings. I keep it low, around 50. The THX optimization, the 8 white blocks, even at 100% contrast I could still see each of the blocks as distinct shades of white. These new TV's don't bloom on high contrast :(. Well actually that is good :).
I have baseline settings that are saved and I don't overwrite them when testing.
Thanks,
