Problem: Will not recieve DirecTv signal

No satellites detected, but OTA works just fine. I've trouble shot from the antenna to the box (1 cable, no splices). The bill is paid. Is it possible that the satellite input or circuit is shot, but the OTA would still work, including HD? Anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks!

So one day, or minute, it's all working and then nothing.....?

Its one or two things. Its either the dish is not the right kind for HDTV or its the box itself. Most likely its the box. Oner of my buddies had the same problem and he exchanged the box and its working fine now.

Could be a faulty or misaligned dish, bad wiring, a bad box... you need to work your way from the dish down. Did it ever work before? Do you have any other receivers?

From the STB out:
No voltage to the multiswitch (indicative of an STB problem)
diplexor(s)
multiswitch
LNB(s) (but I wouldn't expect all three to be bad)
cabling (from multiswitch to LNB)

Or as mjones73... the became 'misaligned' and lost site of the satellites.

Thanks for the responses, for clarification, system was working just fine since the day I first hooked it up, and then "poof" went out. I've had the dish get misaligned once during a wind storm, but have checked and rechecked the alignment. Not a wisp of signal. Ratman, where again should I check for voltage, and what levels would i be looking for?

I'm not very experienced with satellite, but I believe that the the output of the STB sends a 13 and 18 DC voltage to the multiswitch for power/swicthing.

I'd assume that you should be able to put a 'multimeter' on the satellite input of the STB and check to see if there is a voltage reading.

Hopefully someone with more experience can confirm/deny my thoughts.

Know anyone with Directv that has a receiver you can use to rule out the dish and wiring?

mjones73, funny, but unfortunately everyone else I know is cable or Dish. I'm pulling my hair out though, because I know I have the Sony box I had before the Samsung somewhere around, but I can't find it. Thanks for the suggestion.

There is a way to do a hardware reset of your box. Call Dtv and ask them how to do it.

Also, it could be a bad LNB (plastic cylinders on dish), I've had that happen to me.

Did you check line of sight? Stupid I know, but it can be overlooked.

I can't believe I pulled my hair out for a month over this before getting it fixed. Go ahead and slap me, but the problem was the dish alignment. I don't know how it could have gone so bad all at once that slight adjustment wouldn't let me pick up any signal at all.

Also, the TS-360 menu is misleading. Under "Automatically detect dish type", I assumed this meant that the receiver could detect the LNB as long as the wiring were intact. This is not the case; it only works if you are already PROPERLY ALIGNED! D* tech support pointed this fact out to me.

So, I hope my lesson will help someone else who experiences the same thing. Just call me stupid, and thanks for everyones' help

Jeff

btw, funny that I don't feel like I had been missing satellite all that much, but dang did I hate paying for it when I wans't getting it!
