I have a problem with my HD channels where the audio is a second or two behind the video so the words are not in sync with the people talking, as if it were dubbed. But I haven't been able to find any pattern to it... on some channels it'll be fine and others will be out of sync, or sometimes multiple channels will be out of sync, or sometimes none. But its only on the HD channels (regardless of whether its an actual HD show or not).
I have Cox cable feeding thru a Motorola 6412 stb. Has anyone else experienced and/or resolved this problem? I've called the cable company twice and they claim they've never heard of such a problem; they send a refresh signal to my box but it doesn't help.
Thanks.
See post 2 of the following thead. Which Make/model TV do you have?

I have a Toshiba 46hm94 connected with component cables and simple L/R audio cables. I'll try rebooting the box and report back. Thanks for your help.
That is a DLP and the Samsungs with audio problems are also DLPs. It has something to do with the conversion. Try outputting a 720P signal and see if that solves the problem.

I've usually had the stb outputting 720p so thats not the problem.
Am I simply gonna have to live with this... having the cable company come out and swap in a new 6412 won't help, will it??

call samsung they have software upgrades
call samsung they have software upgradesHe has a Toshiba, I don't think Samsung will help. I'm not sure if Toshiba has an upgrade, but it may be worth checking.
It's my understanding that the Samsung upgrade, does only work with 720P though, and in some cases, if you use an A/V receiver, the issue is reduced, but not eliminated.

I failed to mention above that rebooting the box didn't help, I tried both powering it off and also unplugging it. So I'll call Toshiba to see if there's any software upgrades.
I have the cable guy scheduled to come out this weekend and take a look, but it seems like this will be a waste of time since he most likely would give me a new stb which would be no help. True?
Thanks again.

we have the same issue here but it isnt with the cable co... i know because i work for the cable co.... its with nbc hd feed and the audio is usually outta sync during primetime.... my cousin works for the local nbc affiliate(she is a producer) and basically admits they have ****ty old equipment at their station that they have just kinda upgraded and not replaced... she said they are aware of the audio sync problem but the owner of the station doesnt want to do anything about it at this time because he feels their isnt enough people watching hd to warrant the cost to replace their old equipement..... BS... anyway i get this question asked alot from people who have hd when i go to their homes and theres nothing i can do about....... anyway not saying this is the exact problem your having but thought i would throw out my 2 cents...
If it happens on all the digital or HD channels, then it's likely a STB or HDTV or both issue. If it only happens on selected (1-2) channels, then it's the affiliate or the network. It may also be related to DD5.1 channels, but I've not heard of that being an issue except for lower sound levels.
It is not something you need to put up with.

i agree if it is mutiple channels then yes could be the stb.... but again if it is the local affiliate and they wont do anything about it as is in my case then there simply isnt anything that can be done...

Sync problems drive me nuts, too. Sometimes, it gets so that I have to train myself to look at people's eyes instead of their mouths to make a show more enjoyable, otherwise I get so wrapped up in the sync issue that I lose track of the plot. Anyway...
For a possible fix for this, you might want to check menu on your amp/processor/receiver (if you are feeding all the audio through one) for an audio delay setting. I've recently discovered that my Denon 2805 has a audio delay setting that allows a delay of up to 200 milliseconds. It has helped a lot. It's no panacea, mainly because sync issues vary from station to station, but it has helped the worst offenders get back in the ballpark.
