The AVSForum posted an article today from the LA Times about TV calibration. The story mentioned that some freelance calibrators can gross $140K/year (I'm guessing that's in California). The story mentions a project coordinator who works for the tech in the story. The coordinator tweaked TVs to pay for college, making up to $1000/weekend.

The monetary potential is there obviously.
Keep in mind...
$$ for training
you have to be well rounded in all of the technologies
you have to be knowledgeble of all manufacturer's products
you have to invest in ~$15,000 and up for the test gear
you have to travel
you will need to be insured
