Ok, this may seem like a dumb question but I can ask then when answered I won't be as dumb as before. :rofl2: So here is my question.
I have a Hitachi HDTV with "Vitual 1080p processing" that upconverts programming to 1080p. Does this mean that it will be still a good TV if and when the TV stations start to distribute 1080p programing? Or, will I need to go get another TV that would support full 1080p implementation?
:guiny: Pour one for yourself... it's on me!
Thanks in advance!

My new Hitachi claims the ability to upconvert all sources but since it cannot display 1080p since the display does not do it...though it seems to...maybe that is what Hitachi means...it looks "virtually" a 1080p display - maybe that is what Hitachi means. :)
Only the newer Sony Qualia 006, the Mitsubishi WL-82913 and some plasmas rank their outputs to be able to do this and can actually display it...
though nothing is transmitted or available on disc or tape for it, yet. :D

http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=17575 ...see this thread. Or do a search for 1080p. There's alot of threads about this.
I think you'll also find that there are very few TVs that actually accept a 1080P signal, including some that display 1080P.

Well if your indicating that 1080p will require a new TV, then I hope that it takes about 10 years before they implement it.:) because that's about how long it will be before I replace this TV.
Here's one for life and durible items!

My TV does not do 720p but I can still see a picture broadcast in 720p when it is converted to 1080i. It is not likely that any broadcaster is going to switch in the next 10 years to 1080p...
