View Full Version : Does this hookup make sense?

I recently bought a Sony KDF-42WE655. It's going to be deivered tomorrow.

Anyway, I've been going over my system to figure out how I'm going to hook everything up and make sure I get the right cables I need.

My equipment:

Sony KDF-42WE655
Samsung DVD-V1000
Nintendo GameCube (with Digital A/V Output)
STP-less Cable

Anyway, because my DVD player is actually a DVD/VCR combo, the manual for the television has me a little confused. I just wanted to see if I've got things straight.

I plan to run the coaxial cable with my cable service to the DVD Player's RF in jack. Then a coaxial cable from the DVD player's RF out jack to the TV's RF in jack. A set of component video cables from the DVD's component out jacks to the TV's component in jacks. An audio cable from the DVD player's audio line out jacks to the TV's audio line in jacks. And finally, component cables and an audo cable from the GameCube to the TV.

Is it actually necessary to run the coaxial cable from the DVD player to the TV? I'm confused about what purpose that serves if the component and audio cables are bridging that gap anyway.

I'd really appreciate any help you guys can provide! Thanks!

If the combo player can't output video from the VCR over the component connections then you'd want to use a composite connection to attach it to the TV also.

I had a Samsung DVD/VCR V-1000 Combo until recently.

For connections you have to consider the dual purpose of the machine:

- DVD, use Component output for Video and recommend Coaxial output to a/v for audio. Use a DTV Component input at your TV.

- VCR, use RF cable from STB plus composite Video and audio outputs.
