I personally have not used one, but I like the idea of not being tied to Dish/Direct. I think you can beat the price with a little research. From what I have read it pretty good at locking channles quickly and no real problems.

i have also been looking at this model. maybe you guys can clairfy a few things...
1. can i use a sd directv reciever with this box to get hd on directv?
2. i know i can use it for ota siganls, does it also have cable inputs for hd cable?

The SIR-T150 is only for OTA 8VSB HDTV. It will not receive satellite, but should receive cable HD if they send the raw 8VSB stream down the wire. I think most cable companies have their own standard and lease you a receiver for a few bucks a month. If you ever plan on watching HBO-HD or HDNet or any of the upcoming DirecTV HD channels you should not get this box.
However, it does seem to be well-liked by the OTA-only crowd and appears to be a good receiver if that's all you intend to watch. I think one of the big selling points on this receiver is the ability to output at native 720p. Most other receivers upconvert 720p to 1080i.

This is a good, reliable OTA box, that handles nothing else. Fairly quick surfing ability, and outputs are very selectable from 480i to 1080i with 480p and 720p options (all selectable via switch on back of unit). Also will output VGA via connector cable, as well as analog non-HD (ie composite and S-VHS).
It's fairly good at detecting low level signals, and I get all OTA stations from about 25 miles with indoor RS UHF antenna sitting on floor next to cabinet. (Not very elegant, but it works fine.)
Menu is ok, but takes awhile to load and find all associated info, especially when some stations are not transmitting menu data.
I switch back and forth between this box and NTSC source by using input on plasma. While DT is good (an order of magnitude better than cable), HD is fantastic. Burned my unit in by watching olympics coverage, and enjoying the flyover over and over.

The SIRT150 is a good model if you want to see the major network broadcasts of HDTV. It will not be compatible with DirecTV, but heard that it might work with cable HDTV when it comes out.
Doesn't matter. If you want to watch prime time tv in awesome clarity, then get it. I found a returned SIRT150 this weekend marked down at Best Buy for $449. Samsung is offering a $100 rebate so the net cost is $350. Of course I needed to buy the component video cables $80 plus the $29 optical digital cable.
I bought an $80 indoor antenna from Radio Shack, but will return it and get an outdoor one. I can only pick up stations with my indoor antenna if I stretch the antenna from the living room up the steps and into a spare bedroom upstairs. That's not going to work.
Good luck with your decision.

I've had this receiver for three weeks, and the only real problem I'm having is some audio problems. Low output, droped audio (for a second) and no audio. I think this is fixed in firmware version 1.8, but I can't figure out how to tell what firmware I'm on (service code?). I also appears to take a special cable to upload the new firmware from the PC to the tuner - via serial port on the PC. The back of the tuner has a service jack - and I do mean jack.

I haven't had any issues with the audio. Are you using the optical output? Does it happen on all broadcasts or is it a problem with a local station?
I have had some video issues with mine. Occasionally I get a weird video artifact that shows up and won't go away unless I turn off the receiver and then back on again. Other than that I haven't had any issues.
Not sure how to check the firmware, might be a pain to update. Good luck with it.

I wouldn't touch it, if I were you!
First, I had one of these for about two weeks and its audio was so weak, Samsung picked it up to "fix" the problem, but only after four weeks and lots of calls did we get it back.
Its audio was still no good, so I called again. This time, Samsung picked up the receiver and a copy of my purchase invoice (from an authorized web-dealer), and they sent me a refund check in full. I now have a Zenith DTV1080 that works as designed, and very well, thank you.
Second, there is a new pair of Samsung boxes coming out later this summer, one of which also has a DirecTV tuner. I would definitely wait or pick another.
