I had one person at bestbuy tell me that the shield guard that comes with the HDTV is am considering, gives it a clearer, sharper picture. Another bestbuy salesperson told me that the shield guard is simply a protection from kids, etc. and has no effect on the picture.

Does anyone know for sure?

Is the Shield-Gaurd that plastic sheet attached to the front of a RP TV that is supposed to be non-reflective but in fact is as shiny as a State Troopers mirrored sunglasses?

It's just a protective layer. Many videophiles will remove it or on some systems that need that space filled they will restack it behind the lenticular screen. Obviously you wll expose the front of the lenticular screen to the environement, dust, kids, accidents, etc., but you will greatly reduce (heck, virtually eliminate on most screens) glare and I think there is also a bit of increase in picture quality.

Some of those protective screens have a slight tint to them to help increase the contrast level just a tad, I would guess. So if you remove it you should make sure that you recalibrate the set to get your contrast and brightness back into line.

I bought the 65" Mits fr Bestbuy and saw they assemble together my projection TV.

The outside shield is just a piece of plastic protector screen and has no effect on the picture. But inside is the 4-5 layers of screens that will enhance the picture quality of screen.
