Okay there are two nbc hd channels on brighthouse, one is in hidef, the other isn't. Whats up with that? Are they going to replace the non hd Nbc with a different channl on the hidef stations, or is brighthouse just experimenting with their hidef channels in general?

Brighthouse still needs to transmit NBC in SD for all the non-HD users that opt to use their TV tuners vs. renting a STB. To my knowledge, ALL cable companies that have HD in their channel plan do this. Note that the HD version is about 1-2 seconds behind the SD version.

Its not the SD channels he is talking about, I noticed this also. I have 2 cbs stations also in the hd tier. Now only one is HD, but sort of odd.

Sometimes some of the channels are simply "remapped" into certain groups.

For example, networks, sports, timeshifts, etc. Sometimes an HD channel is "mixed in" or vice versa. This remapping doesn't require any additional bandwidth.

You can tell on a STB if a channel has been remapped - either by checking the QAM frequency in the diagnostics, or by changing between the channels. A (real) channel change usually takes a few seconds. A channel change between remaps is almost instantaneous.

That is because CH.8 is STD basic non HD and CH.608 is digital / HD (the HD is limited at times ) ...
