I've been all over Reno, Nevada looking for a copy of either Avia or DVE. HT Electronics says they have the disk. I get excited. I says 'how much?' and he says '75 bucks!' He thought I wanted a tech to come out and do the calibration. His tech has the dvds (both). But they do not sell it. And he is the only person in town that I have spoken with that even knows there is a DVE or Avia calibration system. Best Buy had no idea what I was talking about. I searched the entire store. I could not find it or any sales person that knew about it. The sales guy in the TV department thought I was nuts for wanting to calibrate a perferctly good TV. LOL

CC had nothning. Sandy's Electrconics had nothing. Bull Dog Multimedia had nothing. I can't find it ANYWHERE!

What's the big secret here in Reno?

I guess I'll have to order it online. I was realy hoping to get the set calibrated this weekend, but that did not happen.

I know BB has the Avia on their website. Why would they not carry it in the store, and why would they not try and sell one to every customer that buys a set? They don't push the ISF tech either, so that's not the issue. They truely think there is no reason to calibrate.

I got to wondering...why can't I just get a static digital image of the test patterns to do this calibration? I'd like to have it on a memory stick I can plug into the TV and just display the JPEG. I never did get real fond of using the DVD as a source anyhow.

OK...off the soap box for now. I'm going to google to find a place to order the Avia.

Amazon.com should have them both. A memory stick wouldn't work because with most new sets you calibrate the inputs seperately, calibrating your memory stick input wouldn't do you much good ;) With that, the only inputs you can do with a disk are the ones you can attach the DVD player too also, you should be able to get the others close by using the same numbers on them though.

Went back and read the title of every DVD in their collection. No DVE or Avia at BB in Reno, NV. Two doors down from BB is a Barnes and Noble. Went in to check it out. After searching for 10 minutes with no luck a young woman came over to see if I was finding everything alright (she knew I wasn't). I told her what I was looking for and she asked if it was instructional. I said "I guess" and she point down by my feet at a 3 foot long section at the bottom of the rack where the instructional dvds are and I glanced through a half dozen before spotting it! Hey...I was close and probably would have found it without her help...but I thanked her nontheless for a job well done. Avia was selling for 50 bucks. I choked on the price. I looked real hard for the DVE. Then the young woman says she would check to see if they could order it. 2 minutes later she came back with the DVE. 24 bills! Perfect!

I hope I did not screw up by getting DVE just because it was cheaper...but a lot of people post positive results when using it so I figured it should be good to go.
