View Full Version : Why do my digital channels come as decimals?

?

I get alot of digital channels with the new HDTV I have, but I do not have IO. Channels in ATMAX, HBO, ThrillerMAX, and alot of others.

If the decimals are normal, how do I find channels? All the guides have them in whole numbers. Do I just have to go through and find what I'm looking for?

Thanks.

What does "IO" mean?

Check out PSIP.

IO usually refers to input/output, but I'm not sure in this case. Hope I answered your question anyway.

Most TVs and STBs with ATSC tuners can be set to "search" for all channels.

InnerOptical or what? Or did they never tell anyone?

57U, yeah Input/Output was my thought as well until I thought of the context it was used in.

On a cable service you don't need to worry about the decimals. They "remap" the channels to wherever they want on the HD STB (if you have one). You can usually download their channel listings from their website.

If you don't have a STB, see the FAQ on "getting cable HD on my TV".

Decimals are usually for OTA locals, and not with cable boxes. The networks now usually have seperate signals for analogue and digital feeds. For example with Time Warner channel 11 (analogue) is SD, channel 311 (digital) is HD. This is cable box, so no decimals. Now with my TV's internal tuner, or in my living room with Voom, I get my OTA locals with decimals (dashes). Example here is channel 2-1 is digital NBC, channel 2-2 is analogue NBC, channel 2-3 NBC weather radar. channel 11-1 is digital CBS, channel 11-2 is analogue CBS etc... This is the only time, AFAIK, that decimals come into play. With a cable box, you should not have decimals...

When using an internal QAM tuner in a TV or a standalone QAM tuner (not rented from your cable provider) , the channels will not be 'mapped' to xxx channel. They will also have 'sub-channel' designations (from my experience).
