OTA 5.1 Audio

In my local region we are unable to get CBS any other way than over the air. I use the antenna just for the sports (NFL playoffs, NCAA's). Last weekend watching the tourney reminded me I was not getting 5.1 from CBS.

I have a Sony KDP-57WS655 and am running the antenna into that. I'm using a basic sony 2000es receiver for surround with coax from the dvd (waiting for the new hdmi boxes in august) and optical in from the cable box. I'm assuming that I just need to run optical digital out from the tv to the receiever, but I want to make sure that will do it before I buy another long optical cable. But, maybe there is another way that I am spacing on, so I thought I would ask you guys. Thanks for any help. Andrew

If you are using the tuner in the TV to receive the broadcast, you need to connect the optical out from the TV to your AV receiver, no way around that.

Also, check out the FAQ "What's available in DD5.1". CBS hasn't had a lot, but it's improving.

Yes, I'm using the tv's atsc tuner. That's what I though. Thanks guys.
