and it seems like the picture got worse, especially on the lower channels. Before, I had digital cable going into the TV and now with the HD box, the stations seem to look almost fuzzy? He did split the line coming out of the wall into my Tivo box and then one into cable box. Could this have anything to do with it?
Also, are the component cables that come from Comcast good enough or should I invest in better ones?
Any advice on how to get best picture?
Thanks.
Please see the HDTV FAQ on "Poor SD PQ".
You probably need to split the signal again (upstream of the STB using a 3-way splitter) and run a cable directly to the TV for the analogue channels (or, if possible as mentioned in the post below, go "through" the TiVo).
Better cables MAY help the picture, but doubtful. Buy them from somewhere you can try and then return them if there's no improvement.

Welcome to wonderful world of HD and the less favorable side of SD. The SD tuner in your new STB does not do to good a job. The tuner in your Tivo or your set will do a better job. How is the Tivo connected to your set. You would need to switch inputs to see whats recorded on your Tivo. That input should show analog somewhat closer to what your used to. Also check out:

BTW
I've had the cables that comcast provided since day one. They are of very good quality and do the trick. You can try other cables but I doubt you'll see any improvement.

Could a motorola signal booster help the situation?

Most likely no, cause like I said the culprit is the tuner. Did you check the input that the Tivo is connected to? Do you see any picture improvement? Pretty much a consensus that Digital STB tuners did a better job. We all go into shock when we see SD on these HD STB's.
Since your problems are with the lower analogues, a signal booster MAY help (a bit), but read that FAQ.
You need to get an amp that's bidirectional. Really you should call Comcast to rectify the situation and ask them for a booster if the signal strength is too low.
