Did I read somewhere that the SA8300HD should show which shows are re-runs in the channel guide?

Depending on your location, some new firmware IPG will let the STB know if a show is a repeat, so that it only records new programmes. If you have this feature, it should be one of the options when you schedule a recording. It's not totally accurate.

That would really help.....I have about 8 recordings of the same episode of The Shield :shootout:

My DVR has the option while setting up a recording to only record first-run episodes on this channel. This is basically the same thing right? I live in Vegas and I thought I read somewhere on here or another website that in Las Vegas while looking at the channel guide there is an "R" or something at the top where the show's info is. Hey 57U...what exactly is firmware IPG and how does it get updated?

Firmware is the "software" that runs the STB. Each service provider is provided with firmware by the STB supplier and each is slightly different for differing needs. New firware is downloaded to the STB as required. Typically new firmware versions are developed perhaps once or twice a year and sometimes (smaller) updates are sent to the STB and don't update the firmware version.

The IPG (interactive programme guide) is typically downloaded to the STB every night.

It's good practice to turn off your STB at night, it makes the download go faster.

The latest firmware we have at Rogers doesn't have a "new episode" option yet, but it has an "in this timeslot" option, which means you don't usually end up with a raft of identical episodes, but if they change the time of the programme, the "name based" finder, doesn't record it because it's not in the correct "timeslot". Nothing's perfect.

Thanks man...you know pretty much everything don't you? I haven't seen you stumped yet in any of these threads. BTW, if I turn my set-top off nights does it still record if I have something scheduled?

Turn it off, it'll record.
