I have an acquaintence who has a brother who is wanting to buy a new TV. He wants one with a card reader so he can stick his card from his camera in to view the pics on the HDTV. Seems like a silly reason to pick a particular brand. So I wanted to see if there are external card readers that can be hooked up to an HDTV through maybe component.
I do not want to transfer picts to a pic cd or anything along those lines. If the reader is not available then he's going to have to just pic a TV based on a feature that I think is useless...but that's his bad. LOL

Card readers usually have USB ports for connection to computers...
Hook up the camera (with card inside) via the composite video port and view pics that way - pretty good quality?
Most people probably burn DVDs and view on a compatible DVD player.

don't know of any readers through component cables, but they all come with the yellow composite cable to view through your tv

Runs about $299 but it will do what you want and then some, I'm sure there are other similiar items on the market...

YEP. There are the component hookups on the back. That's something for me learned today.

My TV has a USB input on the side as well as composite. This way you can plug the USB straight from the camera to the TV. It's really easy to get to without pulling out the set. It has many different viewing settings...even has a slideshow setting.

Well for what it's worth the Panny has it, and some dvd players are also being built with a slot for them as well. The easiest way though is to simply use the yellow composite connection.

I am sure that some of you already know this, but I thought I would put my two cents in. I have my computer hooked up to my LCD monitor thru the VGA (XGA) port. This way I can download the pictures from my digital camera directly to the computer and view them on my monitor.

I'd reccomend he tries a TV out on the sales floor of a retailer. A couple of years ago I demoed digital photographs on TVs that had card readers built in, testing their native size (1600 x 1200), or HDTV sizes (1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080). I tested them at higher DPI's (180 or higher) or at lower DPI's (60 and 72).
The result? No matter what resolution or DPI, the photos were sub-par: grainy, digital artifacting and improperly scaled in each test. The only brand I could not test at the time was Sony, because I did not own a memory stick. Technology has more than likely changed since that time, but I would still test it out before buying - if that's a factor for your brother.

My Hitachi 51S715 has a usb port on the front to hook my camera up but you can also use a card reader and plug that in too. Last years Hitachi had a card reader built in

On my Sharp Aquos, on the top of the tv, their is a slot where i can pcmcia card in, and use all types of card readers, xd, sd, scandisk etc, but I don't use it because, I just plug my camera to the usb port on my computer and view it on there.
Just my 0.02 cents
