I have a Mitsubishi 50" 4:3 format hi def TV. I purchased a Samsung SIR-T451 receiver for off air use. My problem is the mitsu only displays 480i, 480p, and 1080i. When I put the reso at 720p on the Samsung, I get nothing. The problem is at 1080, the pic is either narrow with side bars or is zoomed which distorts everything. I called samsung tech and they told me the samsung doesn't convert the 1080 to 720. The only way to avoid the reso distortion they said was to receive 720p signal. Does anyone know if other ota receivers are capable of providing 702p signal?

A 720P signal will NOT solve your problem. Your TV DOES NOT accept 720P.

I don't know if there's a way to set the STB to output a signal that will be appropriate for your 4:3 TV. Is there a setting in the STB for 4:3 instead of 16:9?

See the HDTV FAQ on "4:3 vs Widescreen". This issue is discussed there as one of the "problems" occasionally associated with 4:3 TVs. Please provide the model number of your TV and we may be able to provide further assistance.
