I have an Hitachi 43" HDTV with a regular Sony DVD player which plays great, but is it worth the extra $200.00 bucks to go progressive scan instead of what I have? Is the picture enhancement that much better?

No and Yes.. Buy the panasonic RP62 take it home if the picture is better keep it. If not take it back and be happy with your Sony.\
You see it all depends upon how bad you DVD player is and on how good your line doubler in the TV is. Some people have noticed a remarkable difference, others none. I recomended the Panasonic because for the price,about 179, and it has the Faroujda chip in it. Any other brand with that quality is over 300+

the 62 replaced the 56. In another post here, was a link to reviews and a PS player shootout.
