View Full Version : Screen?

I am thinking about purchasing a Toshiba TDP MT500, and was looking for a screen for it. It operates at 80’ and will be about 11’ away from the screen. The screen will be placed in an apartment building, so I would prefer not to have to drill any major holes in any walls. What do you think?

The room has windows, and though you can cover them with drapes, it is not neccisarily as light controlled as a basement, for example. Is this not the situation where a projector/screen set-up would be the best? I just don't want to have to move out a gigantic TV when i leave the apartment. I was thinking about a flatscreen or DLP rear projection TV because i heard they were thin and light.

What do you think?

If you can, I would paint a screen on the wall. A black (or dark colored) boarder couldn't hurt either.

Francesco, welcome to HDTVoice,

Do a Google search for:

Da-lite
Stewart
Carada

put the word 'screen' after each.....

AND you are correct about ambient light, it can ruin the experience. If you could control the light a FP would be nice. My kids and gkids enjoy ours.

The DLP or LCD RPTV is something to consider and don't forget about the CRT based RPTVs. You can get a lot of bang for your buck.

You could go with a CRT RPTV, save your $$'s for the FP when your situation allows or use the $$'s you save for a better sound system. IMHO the sound system is more than 50% of the HT experience anyway.

Again my opinion, go for at least a 5.1 system. I would much prefer an inexpensive 5.1 to a very good 2 channel system for movies. AND you don't have to have a dedicated area for a small 5.1 system

I'm just not a big fan of plasma TVs. My only real complaints would be price and screen burn. I know they are thin, look sexy on the wall and the people who have them love 'em and I'll probably get flamed.

Probably way more than you wanted to read, but I felt 'wordy' tonight :)

Good luck,
Lee
