Wooger, this unit is available for under $750 on the web and has been discussed many times on this forum. We even have a special forum (D-VHS) and FAQ dedicated to it. Type D-VHS, or the model number into the search engine and it'll show you all the posts...
It has also been reviewed a couple of times a couple of months ago.
It needs a firewire input to work, so that is somewhat limiting to some people.
It's been available for about a year but was $2k when introduced.

I purchased and returned the jvc 3000 because it does not record a hdtv broadcast. There is no component inputs and there are no hdtv receivers with firewire. I called jvc and they admitted same
The next generation of cable STB will have firewire outputs (they are in the works but not yet released). I believe there are a very few OTA STBs that have firewire out. Don't know about satellite.

I live in Florida and have adelphia, but I have not found anybody in their organization that knows what I am asking. They show a channel suggesting hdtv and it says "coming soon" I want to buy another hdtv but live in an apartment and can't use a dish. I have been told by terk that their model t-55 may enable me to get the local channels but I want to be the second one, not the first. I have a 65" toshiba with a toshiba 3000 in Pennsylvania and it works fine. I have three LNB's and get HBO Showtime and HDNET. My hero is Mark Cuban

Yummer1, the Dish Network 921 PVR and the JVC TU-PVR 9000 will have a fire wall out. The 921 will not be available until the second quarter and the JVC may be awailable in the first quarter. They are both manufactured by JVC. They both will have a "1394 iLINK digital iterface for connection to a D-VHS. The 921 will have at least a 250GB or larger hard drive for storage of HDTV & SDTV and the TU9000 will have a 120GB hard drive. All of the other specs look the same. The specs have been leaking out. JVC has been very tight liped obout it. I obtained two charts with there specs.
I'd really be interested in seeing the specs on the 921. Just hope SAT programming comes along by then.
Thanks,
Lee

There are a couple of differences between the JVC TU-PVR9000 and the DISH PVR921 ....
The 9000 will NOT have an 8VSB (over the air digital tuner built in, and thus will not PVR (record) OTA signals. It will also only have a 120GB HD.
The 921 WILL have 8VSB OTA tuner and will be able to record digital OTA (not analog though). The hard drive specs are either 250GB or 320GB (both made by MAXTOR).

Ray Simon, Thank you very much. The information is very helpful. I can now wait for the new receivers. I was going to buy the Rudy Maxa tapes from HDNET but I will wait and record same. It sounds like the unit will be similar to a TIVO or Replay TV units

This is exciting!!! I have a toshiba 3000 hdtv If the receivers come in May it is worth the wait. Thank you for your information
Originally posted by yummer1 I was going to buy the Rudy Maxa tapes from HDNET but I will wait and record same. May I suggest that if you record Rudy Maxa, you do so from HDPBS, if you can receive it, and perhaps provide them with a tax deductible member contribution.... And no, I don't work for PBS, I just think they do a good job and need all the support they can get... (I support them and I don't live in the US or get a tax deduction.)
