When I go into the on screen settings by pressing settings twice there is an option called "Set: A-C Outlet" The two choices are: Always On & On with Set-top. Anybody know what this setting is for? I'm still trying to figure out a way to get the box to quit pushing a signal when I turn off the power so I can use the HDMI and the component 1...without having to unplug one or the other.
I know...I know...just go get a switcher. Just trying everything 1st before spending another $100.

It's probably to set the power outlet on the STB to 'switched' or 'unswitched'.
In other words, the outlet will power off when you power off the STB, unswitched will still provide power even of the STB of powered off.
1. Do not plug any electronics into this outlet if you are using it in "switched" mode. All electronics should be switched off using their remote because sometimes the internals of those electronics need to "stay on", run fans, etc.
2. The signal from the SA8300HD is always on. There is no way to switch it off.

I think there could also be some potential problems with leaving a device "powered on" and connected to a switched outlet. When you then add power to the outlet, that power could cause a surge normally handled by the power switch circuitry, no?

I don't use the AC outlet...because even in unswitched mode...it turns off the outlet when it is rebooting.

I plugged the light for my wall unit into the switched outlet so that it goes on and off with the STB.
I agree that plugging a A/V component may be a bad idea.
