I have a Pioneer 3500HD STB that I am havign problems with. I have a RPLCD set so I would like to display the 720p channels (Fox, ABC etc) in the native resolution of the TV. But when I set my box to output in 720P, opening the channel guide crashes the box and I have to reboot it. There are no problems if I set the output to 1080i only.

I would really like to output in 720p for Fox and ABC as I think it should produce a better picture on my tv, but can't live without the program guide!

It is hard to find anyone at the cable company (TXC) who even knows the difference between 720P and 1080i and why I would care which one I am outputting through the box. They say since 1080i doesn't cause a problem, why bother with 720p...

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Maybe your TV doesn't accept "native" 720p input.
You may have to keep the STB outputting 1080i.

My TV accepts 720p input, it is a Hitachi 50V500 LCD. I can (and have done so) watch Fox in 720P when the STB is set to output that format. The crash only and always happens when I open the channel guide or information bar while watching something in 720p.

Any other ideas? Seems to me to be a glitch in the STB.

Sounds like a firmware issue. You may wish to contact pioneer by e-mail to see if they know about it.

When SA first had their 3100HD, you could not see the 1/4 screen image when you brought up the IPG, but it didn't crash the STB. The SA3250HD showed the 1/4 screen image in the IPG or the whole image "behind" the info bar.

That's a good idea, I will contact Pioneer and am working on the cable company to get another STB (may never happen). Was hoping I guess to hear from someone with the same STB that knew how to fix the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions though.
