Good Morning,
I recently decided on the Hitachi 57twx20b HDTV and now need a new tuner. The sales associate mentioned the Denon AVR 1603 and stated a price of $360. I'm relatively new at the HDTV game and I'm not sure if this will suit my needs or is too expensive for this unit.
Can someone help with the proper info I will need to make the correct choice?
Here's background info:
1- I'm a newbie
2- Would like a good quality Receiver but funds will be drained after HDTV purchase.
3- Still need speaks and DVD player.(He mentioned the Energy Take 5.2 speakers and the JVC XVS 500 DVD player)

Thanks in advance for the help.

I rarely recommend products, but you mentioned a JVC DVD player and I'd suggest you might be happier with a Panasonic, Toshiba or Hitachi DVD player. It's just that there have been more "problems" and "picture quality issues" with players from Samsung, APEX, and JVC.

The TV was a good choice and I hope you're happy with it. Since you have a Hitachi TV, if you can find a Hitachi DVD player to your liking, it might be a good choice for "compatibility" reasons.

Go with the Denon AVR-1803 ($350 on the web or Ebay) has Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DPII and component switching. Great Receiver for the price.

For speakers the Energies are good also check out Klipsch Synergy Series or Klipsch Quintets Series. Great speakers at a pretty decent price!

DVD Player you can do about anything, just make sure it has progressive scan. Toshiba SD-3750, SD-4800, SD-5700 are all great DVD Players. You can usually find the SD-3750 on Ubid.com for about $100 plus shipping.

Good Luck

Just my $.02

If you are short on cash and want a good DVD player, I would suggest the Tosh SD-3750.

Good PQ, nice menus, good zoom, audible feedback with remote,
picure controls (color, tint, contrast, etc), yada, yada

Perhaps not 'The Best', but for the money... can't be beat!

Since money is an issue look at something like these. Choices from Sears (http://www.sears.com/sr/search/results/searchresults.jsp?BV_SessionID=%40%40%40%401601627369.1038255595%40%40%40%40&BV_EngineID=ccdgadcgldmhgfgcehgcemgdffmdfko.0&targetPage=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fsearchresults.jsp&vertical=ELEC&pageName=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fsearchresults.jsp&page=&sort=&order=&prodCount=3&catname=Home+Audio&subcatname=Home+Theater+Systems&subcat=-1073871017&bidsite=&sortorder=d&compare=YES&poid_1=1076469224&poid_2=1076185410&poid_3=1076114418&poid_4=&box7=1076469224&box8=1076185410&box13=1076114418)
