I am able to record HD broadcasts with my COmcast provided Motorola DCT 6412 STB, however I noticed two things different from regular DVR recordings, wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this.
An HD recording cannot be paused, rewinded, fast forwarded, etc......any non-HD recordings can be manipulated as would be expected.
and
I recorded the 1984 documentary "Speed", and during playback, there were a few scenes where two jet-engined cars were lighting up the afterburners at night. When there was alot of bright action like you can imagine, the picture seemed to lose it's integrity, like becoming "blocky" or "pixelated", very noticeably.
My only theory on this, based on my fairly good understanding and experience of computers is that the bandwidth of the HD signal at these points reached a point which was too high for the recording system to be able to record in entirety, and it is losing some of the data in the conversion to the hard drive, perhaps a limitation of the cpu or memory subsystem in the DVR, or maybe a limitation of the actual hard drive itself?
