I'm really interested in the new Diamond Series, however Mitsubishi keeps moving the delivery date back. Does anyone know when this set will be available? I'm thinking about the
ws-65909.

I like to hear from other owners of this set. My set arrived over a week ago. My initial impressions so far:

"Great"
* HDTV broadcast picture is more than stunning! (However, see note under "Bad")
* Picture through progressive scan DVD player Denon DVD 3800 is like sitting in a movie theater w/ great brightness, color, and details in shadows.
* Film DVD's are breathtaking while video derived DVD not as good.
* Lots of interconnects for many types of sources.

"Mediocre"
* Interlaced images look worse because of larger image. Imperfections are enlarged. Consequently,
* Screen image through ATT Broadband cable looks miserable.
* VCR recordings, even S-VHS (and ET) don't look as good as on a smaller screen.
* DVD through S-video barely better than cable and VCR. You MUST use the video compenents with a high quality machine to see the beauty of your investment.
* Built-in speakers mediocre but that's to be expected.

"Frustrating"
* Need for outside antenna to receive the "stunning" unscrambled HDTV tv broadcasts. I'm having to contract someone to put up an old fashioned rooftop antenna and will likely move to digital satellite in a three-four years when I expect prices for satellite dish and programming to drop.
* Indoor/Outdoor TERK antenna not useful in San Francisco Richmond District-going to rooftop antenna.

"Unused Features"
* No "Firewire" componets attached yet
* No HAVi equipment programmed yet

Final notes:
* Factory video settings needed adjustment like turning down the "Contrast" which was set all the way up.
* All 64 points of color convergence were still aligned after set up.
* Evaluating whether it's worth purchasing the complimentary Mitsubihsi HD VCR HS2000U.

You will love the hdtv broadcasts when you get your antenna up. One station that has excellent hd broadcast is channel 9.1 (digital channel 30) it is a pbs channel but when they are showing hdtv I have not seen better. My dvds look stunning with progressive out. I was using an inexspensive sony but I will have a denon 1600 next week. I expect the picture to look even better.

I have owned this set for 3 months. I live in Pleasanton, CA in an apartment (on the 2nd floor) and have not been able to receive ANY HD OTA signal (can't get satellite due to no line-of-sight). I am stuck with the extremely crappy ATT Digital cable signal for TV viewing (although channels in the upper range 500+ look MUCH better than in the lower range 2-200). I am currently using an XBox which DOES NOT supply progressive scan for DVD playback, but the picture is awesome none the less. I have used the AVID DVD to adjust my set (after which I must say made a major improvement to the DVD viewing).

If anyone knows how I can receive OTA HD signals from a 2nd story apartment, please let me know as I'm stuck here for another 9 months until my lease it up.

Can you put up a small antenna on the roof?

I can only place an antenna outside my balcony, which faces east/north-east and the towers seem to be west. This is a 3-story apartment complex and I'm sandwiched between two floors.

On another note, by only having crappy digital cable and a non-progressive-scan DVD player, is it worth paying the $$$ for an ISF calibration?

Go to and get one of the bowtie antennaes (maybe a 2 bowtie) put it on a tripod and you might be able to get some hidef. Wait at least a couple of months after your purchase of the tv before getting your set calibrated. I think you will be able to see an improvement as part of the calibration is greyscale adjustment and eliminating the red push. Also the adjustments are done for each input. Another option would be to buy a HDTV satelite if you have south southeast exposure. I have run satellite from balconies on tripods before without any problems.
