Is anyone familiar with this model? They have one at Sam's Club. The picture looks fantastic. $1,699.

I got my Akai PT46DL10 at Fry's, $999.99. After I hooked it up I noticed a "reflective bar" about 30" long, 1" wide about 8" from the bottom of the screen. I noticed it when the screen was first turned on with signal input and thought nothing of it. I took it back to the store and got another one. Same bar but not as wide. I called Akai and they sent a repairman 2 weeks later. He said he could order a part, so I took the TV back to Fry's and go another one. This one I checked at the store, no bar, good. Took it home, picture great but this one seems to be a little noisy, from either the fan or mirror. I like the lookes of the TV, but.
So far I can't find a swap botton for the picture-in-picture. Also, if you make some settings, i.e. 4:3 ratio, you have to reset it after turning off the set. Minor discomforts. The other quirks, I think, are common with all DLP sets, like a warm up period and some fan noise.
I hope I get a good set, otherwise I spent $200 on a very nice stand for nothing.

Long story short....took home three of these Akai sets for Sam's Club, each one returned for individual problems. After returning the third set(no audio) spent a little more and bought a panasonic PT-50DL54 and never looked back

I like the picture on this set and want to purchase it, but I am hesitant because it is cheaper and made by a company that is unknown to me. I am kind of wondering about the sound quality. The picture is much sharper than any other set in Conn's.

I just brought one of these home and have the same issue that Bahamagus had though not as pronounced. It looks like a 12" long mirror reflection about 2" up for the center. It's only visible on full black screens when viewing and if I stand directly in front of the screen looking down. Since this screen was $1000 cheaper than the samsung and $600 cheaper than a Panasonic I'm willing to live with it but I'm going to see if I can get some help from Akai. Hopefully it's not too difficult to correct. Humping this thing back to the store and another home to discover a worse or similar problem is not an option I want to pursue.

Another note: The 30Watt speakers on this TV aren't that loud at all. I'm not sure it even goes as loud as my old 28" JVC regular TV. Thankfully I have the AUX out connected to my Logitech Z680 system which at 500W RMS is plenty loud.

I'm also looking into to getting one. Well I actually already got the 'Viore 46', but I'm basically going to test it for 2 weeks, and bring it back if its not 'amazing'. (Its on delivery from bestbuy/futureshop websites, but I got it at the store so I know I can return it within 30 days for a full refund).

The bestbuy in london has a display model that has been severely damaged. THe video basically shows 2/3 of the color - I think the wheel might be broken in it. Any color it could not projected would show white and pixelated lines.

I also noticed that when there was no signal, but the unit was on and the screen was black - there would be this small rainbow about halfway up the screen.

one good part about this buy, it comes with a stand free.

I bought my Phillips tv from Conns in conroe,Tx. Just buy The service plan and make them give you a policy# from the provider. I have had a bad time getting my set fixed. I called main office and got a manager to take over my case. It took 5 weeks and 2 house service calls and a trip to the shop. now I am still waiting to hear from a manager the first of the week. If they buy my set back I am looking at the Akai that you are talking about. not a lot of info on it as spec's go Akai dont wven list it on their site. Make them demo it for you using the remote that came with it,(not the store universal one). and ask to see the owners manual and read it before you buy the set.

We bought this set about a month ago. We were pretty happy with it until Christmas Eve, when it abruptly quit (fortunately, after the Steelers game was over). There is no sign of life in the set now -- no front panel lights, nothing. I checked the power strip, and the socket worked. It is as though a fuse blew, though I couldn't find one. Is this the symptom of a blown lamp?

I haven't been able to raise a human at AKAI's tech support yet ... I would appreciate anyone's advice ...

Did you try plugging it into another outlet. Try unplugging the TV for a few minutes to see if it'll reset, then plug it back in.

That was the first thing I tried, with no luck ... thanks anyway. Hopefully, I'll get in touch with tech support today!

C'mon now... play nice.

Some individuals may say the same about your TV. It doesn't make it right.

In case anybody else is wondering how to fix this, I was having the same problem and I took the back off of the TV and figured out that it was caused by the image reflecting off of the bottom edge of the frame of the screen. The inside of the back of the TV is basically a huge mirror, and it needs to be angled upward a little bit from where it is to get the whole image within the frame of the screen and get rid of the bar. There aren't any adjuster-knobs-- you'll just have to rig it up. You have to take the two panels off the back, then unscrew several phillips-head screws around the perimeter and 4 star-bit screws. I used spacers in the top of the case when I reattached the back to the TV, thereby angling the screen upward about an inch from where it was. I haven't figured out how I'm going to make it permanent-- maybe with some black electric tape to cover the gap. Or maybe I'll just chunk it when I move in 6 months.

Strangely, this seems to have improved the color as well. Oh well, I'm not complaining.
