Convergence Problem

I just bought my Sony KDP-65XBR2 HDTV less than a week ago. For about 4 days I enjoyed the most beautiful picture with just cable signal. Yesterday, I shut the TV off and went to bed after spending the entire evening marveling about the clarity of picture. When I came home from work the following day and turned on the TV, there were 3 of everything in red, yellow and blue.

I called Sony immediately to get troubleshooting help and was told I would need a repairman. I then called Circuit City and they agreed to replace the TV.

My question is, what could have caused this to happen overnight with the TV off. There didn't seem to be a surge as all my other equipment is fine and nothing was blinking. I have a computer connected to the same cable, and that is fine as well.

I'm trying to understand what happened so I can prevent it from happening to the new TV. I am using the TV's optical output and fixed audio outputs to my Yamaha reciever and did tune the reciever to FM radio the morning of the day this happened. Could that have caused it?

I would sincerely appreciate any insight any could give.

I have one of these sets as well, my first set did the same thing, but basically unplugging the unit for 24 hours as SONY suggested it helped my issue. In your case it looks as though one of the guns was actually defective or the chipset that controls convergence was the culprit.

It's really an awesome TV especially with an X-BOX attached to one of the component outputs. :D

I watched the Winter Games and was amazed at the detail level, especially during hockey.

Hopefully this won't distract you from getting a replacement set installed.

One question, what is an X-Box and why do I need one?

XBOX is Microsoft's state of the art game console with NVIDIA graphics. Monster cable makes a component based cable for HDTVs and simply looks incredible, since XBOX supports 1080i and all of the subsets.

If you play games it's a must have, if not then enjoy the TV! :)

Just wondering if the monster component cable is better then the Microsoft high Def connector?
