I really hope this isn't redundant but here goes. If you know of thread where this is adressed please let me know:

I have a Sony kdf55wf655 with HDMI input, I am currently using the component output from my high def box (incompatability issue with comcast cable card) to my television. However, since I only have two comp inputs and the other one is dedicated to my DVD player, I would like to run my cable throught the HDMI input so I can hook up my PS2 through the other component input.

My cablebox is a comcast box with a DVI output. So I guess I have two choices, I could either 1) get a DVI to HDMI cable or 2) use DVI to HDMI adapter and use an HDMI cable. I'll probably go with the second option so I have a HDMI cable for the future if I get an HDMI DVD player etc. I have two questions;

1) Is there a picture quality difference between the two options mentioned above?

2) How will I send sound to the television since I believe DVI doesn't carry sound. So when I swith the TV to HDMI input, I won't have any sound going to my receiver ( I have the TV speakers off and the audio output hooked up to the receiver)?

I think thats everything, thanks for the help guys!

1) Some see PQ improve some don't, you wont be loosing anything by going DVI. The only concern you might have is that with a HDMI adapter for a DVI cable I had trouble with Ondemand Services but overall my PQ was the same.

2) If you have the sound going to your receiver now, that should stay the same(are you using the coax or optical to receiver?). If you want sound to your Set then most HDMI inputs have red/white audio connections for sources that dont carry the sound to HDMI.

Wanting to use the 2nd component for ps2 sounds good Raj. When switching from component to DVI/HDMI you might see some small increase in the PQ. Like O' said, some say they see a difference, while some do not. However there do seem to be quite a bit of posts from users who say they have small issues with the DVI/HDMI adaptor. The only way to see for yourself is to give it a try.

As far as the sound...you're right the DVI wont carry the sound, but as posted, use the red, white RCA auido cables to the back of the TV. That will be fine.
