I have had zero problems with a Motorola DCT6200-to-Toshiba 42HP84 hookup using component video. I tried the DVI-to-HDMI connection today and am now having a problem where if I jump from input to input, when I return to the HDMI input, the video is duplicated where the same program is being displayed twice on the monitor. This happens when I switch back and forth between HDMI (cable TV) to S-Video (DirectTV), and also between the old component video and HDMI outputs for the DCT6200. The only way to clear this condition is to power cycle the DCT6200. I've tried using the various stretch modes, but this does not clear the problem. There's nothing in the documentation for the STB and TV that would seem to address this problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this ?
This may be caused by having the STB connected to the TV with both component video and DVI/HDMI. Disconnect one or the other.
See the HDTV FAQ on "DVI/HDMI Information."

This happened to me when the box and the tv were in conflict between progressive and interlaced settings... I can't exactly remember which way did what but I THINK it was when the TV was set for 540p and the output source was set for interlaced ---- yes I believe that was it... the DVD player!!! it was set to interlaced output 480i.... and if the tv was set to 540p then I would see side by side images.... have a look at the 480 overide settings....
this conflict may be to the HDCP handshake protocol.... the protocol works every time when applied as follows... the TV is powered "on" first... wait for the "handshake" to occur from set to STB... (on a 6208 the display on the STB flashes "dU1") then the STB can be powered "on". On shutdown the STB must be powered "off" first, then the TV. Simply switching inputs while leaving the box powered "on" may cause problems with the protocol... A sony owner had the same problem before... her solution was to change channels up or down on the STB and then return to the channel she wanted on the STB following any input changes on the TV.
ALSO what 57 relates is correct too! I found in the manual (I hate when I have to RTFM) for my 6208 that the box supports output via HDMI or Component - It says specifically one OR the other.... This may also be related to HDCP issues.... You can however also output via the composite video out... I'm not sure about the S-video out... it should be OK.
Good luck.
HDCowboy, you'll see side-by-side if you try to send a 480P signal on a cable only able to handle 480i, like S-video or composite video.

Maybe that was the grief 57... thanks... like I mentioned, been a while since I had that problem... have a peek at the edit of my previous post... I kinda think he may have HDCP issues...
'preciate the info on the cable thing...

Well I tried just about everything. I disconnected the component video cables and tried all the progressive and interlace settings. I made sure the TV was turned on first, saw 'DVI' flash, and then I turned on the STB. I still got the problem regardless. I was able to clear the problem by switching channels as was mentioned a Sony user with the same problem did. I've read that Toshiba's have problems with HDCP handshakes so I suspect this might have something to do with it. Before I did all this, I was trying to determine if the DVI-HDMI connection would be that much more clearer than the component video. I really don't notice any difference. Since this is the case, I'll just go with the component video connection and use the HDMI input for an upconvert DVD player. I was considering that anyway, but wanted to see if the DVI-HDMI connection would make a difference given that I use the STB much more frequently than the DVD player. Thanks to all for the great advice and suggestions !

New to the forum, but I had a similar problem like this using a Moto DCT6208 with DVI out on two different sets. The problem first showed up on my RCA HD50LPW165 with a DVI-HDMI cable RCA/Thompson was just totally stumped and wouldn't even return calls. I had even tried switching STBs and got the same problem. Then it started on my Sharp Aquos 26A5U when I hooked up the same type STB with a DVI-DVI Cable. The Cable company (Wave Broadband) said if it doesn't work use the component cables..."they don't support the DVI port" so I finally called Motorola, At least there I got to talk to tech support...But anyway while the tech was fumbling around putting me on hold I tried changing the setting on the STB from an output of 720P to 1080i ... and the problem with the image on the Digital Port on both systems went away. While waiting for the greatest minds at RCA, Wave and Motorola to figure this out I also figured out that if I paused the DVR function and then started again this would also fix the picture problem when switching to the HDMI port. I'm still trying to figure out if I lost anything by pushing 1080i out of the cable box and letting the TV sets deal with it. I also have a Cable Card on the RCA which has better picture, but it is also dealing well with the 1080i - 720p conversion. BTW the problem I experienced with the Digital port seemed to be only when the channel the STB was on was an HD 16:9 picture and could be either the double picture (Rare), Picture Snow with good sound (sometimes) or usually the HD picture would wrap off the left side of the screen to the right side by about 20%.
FYI - I also experience the duplicate image when switching to the DVI-HDMI input, not always but sometimes. Yes, it's easily remedied by changing the channel.
Do we know exactly why this happens? Given that it seems to occur on various TV brands, mine is Sony, it would seem to be a glitch in an underlying protocol somewhere in the chain. If that's the case I can live with it. However, if anyone has any new info about the cause and how it could be permanently remedied, please post. Thanks.
